The new museum site has been transferred, after some years, to the historic 16th century building, Palazzina San Giobatta. The three-storey building, which has undergone some restyling, is at the heart of the Porto Antico, situated next to il Bigo panoramic lift and just 200 metres from the aquarium. This area was redesigned under the Renzo Piano project, which regenerated the old port area and brought in new developments. It was designed with versatile spaces, in order to optimise the exhibition set-ups and guide visitors in their discovery of hundreds of relics, documents, materials and films in an even more modern and interactive way, and to create a useful space for the city and visitors through initiatives, exhibitions, events and conferences.
Birthday parties and corporate events can be organised at the museum. The museum is managed by the “Fondazione Genoa 1893”, a participatory body founded in 2006 by Enrico Preziosi, which now boasts over 5,000 members. Opening hours Tuesday-Sunday.
